Why a watersports trip works for pupils

A trip to the sea is much more than a day at the beach. Pupils learn by doing, work as a team and discover the marine environment from the inside.

  • Active learning: a hands-on approach that is both educational and recreational.
  • Group bonding: shared challenges and time together help the class come together.
  • Environmental education: a special emphasis on understanding and respecting the marine environment.
  • Cross-curricular content: workshops on sailing knots and on courses and winds, linking to navigation and science. See our outdoor PE ideas at sea.

The programme rests on three ideas: physical activity as healthy leisure, play as a way of learning and sport as a structured, safe activity.

What pupils can do

Schools choose a ready-made package or mix activities to suit them:

  • Dinghy sailing and catamaran: a first taste of sailing.
  • Kayaking: easy from the very first minute, ideal for younger pupils.
  • Paddle boarding: balance and fun on calm water.
  • Windsurfing: a challenge for older pupils.
  • Beach games and workshops: sailing knots, courses and winds.

Pupils are split into groups that rotate between sports, so everyone makes the most of their time on the water.

  • Safety equipment, plus civil liability and accident insurance.
  • Course notes and a certificate for every pupil.

Timings and the running order can be adapted to each school. If you have a different idea in mind, we will look at it.

Safety: what teachers and parents ask most

  • A sheltered setting: the inlet between the island and the coast is protected from the wind, with no currents or swell, and shallow, crystal-clear water.
  • Lifejackets are compulsory throughout every session on the water.
  • Equipment suited to the pupils’ age and level, in perfect condition.
  • The relevant insurance and permits for every activity.
  • Small ratios on the water, with Royal Spanish Sailing Federation instructors.

Facilities for the group

Everything is on the beach itself, with no travel during the day:

  • Separate changing rooms for girls and boys, with hot showers.
  • Space to leave rucksacks.
  • A classroom.
  • A shaded picnic area for snacks and lunch.
  • Wi-Fi.

How to organise the trip, step by step

  1. Choose the format: half day, full day or several days.
  2. Pick the activities to suit the group’s age and level.
  3. Ask for a proposal with the number of pupils, their ages and the date you have in mind.
  4. Prepare the consent form for parents and the kit list.
  5. Confirm the day: arrival, lunch and departure times.

What pupils should bring: swimwear and water shoes, sun cream, a cap, a spare T-shirt and, if they have them, sunglasses. Plus a snack (and lunch on a full day). The school provides all the technical equipment.
